The quarterfinals of the state high school football playoffs got underway Friday night with nine games. Seven more games are scheduled for Saturday. Here is a recap of Friday night’s action:
La Cueva 38, Eldorado 35
The most unlikely of heroes emerged for La Cueva Friday night in the quarterfinals of the Class 6A football playoffs.
Capping a furious second half comeback for the Bears, Dominic Camacho booted a 33-yard field goal with 58.4 seconds to go to lift La Cueva to a wild 38-35 victory after they trailed by three touchdowns at halftime.
“We just knew we had to get the ball close for Dominic,” La Cueva coach Brandon Back said afterwards. “He’s been kicking so well all year long. He’s gotten better all year long. We knew if we got the ball close, he would make it. We had 100 percent confidence he would do his job. He did it for sure.”
