The semifinals of the New Mexico high school football playoffs began Friday night with three games, including both 6A semifinal games. Five games will be played Saturday afternoon. Here is a recap of Friday night’s action:

La Cueva 37, Cleveland 34 (OT)

La Cueva, which barely survived rival Eldorado last week, punched their ticket to next Saturday's Class 6A championship game by outlasting Cleveland, 37-34 in overtime at Wilson Stadium, the second time this season the Bears have beaten the Storm.

But this game played out much differently than the Week 2 encounter won by La Cueva, 30-7. The Bears tied the score at 31-31 with less than two minutes remaining in regulation when they forced a Cleveland fumble inside the 5-yard line, scooped up the loose football and stepped into the end zone for the game-tying touchdown.
