Click THE STORYLINE: The Lovington Wildcats will make the short trip to Ruidoso to defend their district championship trophy in a game that could cause a major rift in Class 3A play-off projections. Last year, Ruidoso had this game in their hands until Lovington made some huge late plays to win a wild-one. The year Lovington's offense has been just lack luster scoring 14.75 points per game, but you have to realize who this 3A program is playing at the same time. Artesia, St. Mike's, Here to view this Link.Goddard, and even the Nueva Leon, Mexico team would beat most 3A programs. Last weekend, Lovington Running Back Justin Bromley ran for over 100-yards and had a punt return against Portales as the Wildcats blanked Portales 21-0. Ruidoso beat Portales two weeks ago winning 47-0 thanks to continued big play from Quarterback Bryce Pompos and Receiver Parker Johnson. On defense, Ruidoso is led by Matthew Carr and Dylan Demerast one of the top linebackers in 3A. Ruidoso is allowing just 15.6 points per game and if they can limit Lovington's offense to just two scores or less, they really should run away with this game.
Hobbs 2-7 @ Clovis 4-5
The Hobbs Eagles have one more shot to play spoiler if they can upset rival Clovis in week 11 of the high school football season. The Eagles are 2-7 this year, 0-4 against 5A teams and scoring just 20.4 points per game. This is another mis-match for the Eagles and they'll have to wait until basketball season for a shot at Clovis in reality. The Clovis Wildcats are now 4-5 after beating Carlsbad last weekend 34-29. On the year, NMPreps.com Mr. Football Candidate Kamal Cass is near the 2,000-yard mark with 20 touchdowns. The Wildcats have own two in a row dating back to week eight when they beat Sandia 38-34. Clovis usually turns it up about right now and a strong win against Hobbs will help their chances insuring a home field play-off game.
Goddard 8-0 vs. Roswell 5-4
The Goddard Rockets put it to Artesia last weekend 49-19, thanks to a defense that forced six turn-overs in the 30 point victory. The Rockets are very balanced and while the lean on a strong group game, don't think for a moment that Quarterback Anthony Ornelas won't hit Tight End David Sweet down the field for a touchdown. On the year Cody French has ran for more than 1,000-yards and 10 touchdowns behind a very impressive offensive line. The Rockets are 3-0 against 4A teams this year and are riding a 32 regular season winning streak dating back to 2009. Roswell was open last week and in week nine they were beaten by Artesia 58-13. The Coyotes still look like one of the final 12 teams that will make the play-offs they just can't end the year losing 50-0 or something like that. The NMAA will look at how they finished the year. The Coyotes are 4-1 against 4A teams and scoring 27.8 points per game.
Dexter 5-4 @ Loving 1-8
The Dexter Demons will try and lock up the district with a win over rival Loving this weekend. This year, Dexter is 2-2 against 2A teams and are coming off a 53-12 win over NMMI. Loving is 1-8 this year and scoring just 5.8 points per game. Last week they lost against Eunice 35-6.
Eunice 4-5 @ NMMI 1-8
The Eunice Cardinals need a big win to insure their play-off spot. With a good amount of 2A bubble teams you would think that Eunice has the best record and best body of work, but you never know what the NMAA is going to look at when taking the final At Large Teams. Eunice is scoring 22.9 points per game and beat Loving last week 35-6. NMMI has continued to struggle this year after a 53-12 loss to Dexter last weekend moving their record to 1-8.
