Entering Week 7 of the New Mexico High School football season, the stakes are only getting higher as district play begins or continues around the state. Here are 10 things we know entering the first weekend of play in the month of October.
1. With district play underway, Rio Rancho must start playing a lot better: The Rams have, quite frankly, been less than impressive the past two weeks. First they were clobbered by Manzano, 55-7, at Wilson Stadium on Sept. 23 in a game that was as one-sided as the final score indicates. Last Friday, Rio Rancho was undisciplined, sloppy and penalty-prone in a 42-20 victory over Sandia. Now they face crosstown rival Cleveland and Volcano Vista in consecutive weeks before going into the bye (Oct. 20). Unless the Rams play better, they risk losing both of those games.
