Teams are back in wrestling rooms around the state! With fall sports wrapping up it’s time to take a look at New Mexico high school wrestling teams for the 2017-18 season. We’ll start in 6A where for the past ten years the Blue Trophy has hung around the Rio Rancho area, basically moving back and forth between the two high schools. Is this the year we see the Championship go somewhere else? Let’s look at each team in the order of how the teams finished in the State tournament last year.
Cleveland – For the first time in a long while the Storm are not returning a state champion wrestler. They do return 5 state placers and one additional qualifier from last year’s team. Wrestlers to watch include: Sophomore Tristan Mascarenas who finished 2nd last year, and senior Jack Luttrell, a 3x state qualifier placing 3rd in 17’ and 4th in 16’.
