Rio Rancho's Clay Patterson has been named the NMPreps.com 2016 New Mexico Mr. Basketball.
Each season the race comes down to the wire and this season had a race just as close. The award has some of the most popular names known with New Mexico High School basketball from Bryce Alford (La Cueva) record setting season in 2013 to one of the top state tournament performance as Rodney Coles led the Espanola Valley Sundevils to the 2011 state championship. This season it was another one of the state tournament performances that put icing on the cake as Clay Patterson took the 11-seed Rio Rancho Rams to it's second state title in school history.
Clay Patterson, becomes the second junior to take home the award joining the group with 2012 winner Cullen Neal of Eldorado High School. Patterson, was a constant scoring leader this season leading 6A with 20.5 points per game. His game expand throughout the court with 3.3 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.8 steals per contest.
