Gallup Invite: Host team Gallup will take on Artesia in the finals after they both beat semi-final opponents Miyamura and Deming. This tournament has been criticized for not adjusting the schedule like others and made a favorite in Grants forfeit its game with Artesia.

"That's ridiculous of Gallup, but also a ridiculous district policy. I'm not saying Grants should've gone because I don't know the road situation but each circumstance is different. This policy is ridiculous for every school district that has it in place." Comment here.
Grants Pirate Boys Varsity was not able to play their scheduled game against Artesia in Round 2 (Semi-finals) of the Gallup Invitational this evening because our district policy states there are no activities if school is cancelled. In Round 1, Grants defeated Deming, moving Grants to the Semi-finals, and moving Deming to the losers side of the bracket. But, today, we found out that not only did we have to forfeit our semi-final game against Artesia, but Gallup Principal, Dominic Romero, made the decision to switch the placement of Grants and Deming in the bracket, giving Deming our spot, and the opportunity to play Artesia in the Semi-finals and potentially advance to the championship. He switched the Pirates into losers bracket, in which Grants had to forfeit today's game, leaving the Pirates to play for 7th place tomorrow. Who made Mr. Romero God and give him the authority to move teams at his leisure? The Pirates should have only had to forfeit their semi-final game against Artesia, and move to the 3rd place game tomorrow!!! This is not only infair to the Pirate boys, but extremely inappropriate!!!! Comment Here.
Grants requested to play Artesia's in the morning on Saturday. Artesia head coach declined. Probably knew he would get another loss from another northern team. Why would you not wanna compete against the best to see where you are at? In my opinion, there should have not even been a choice. The tournament directors should have made that happen, now Artesia will win the Gallup tournament with an Big asterisk." Comment here.
