5A
Hobbs Lady Eagles 15-1 Head Coach Johnny Casaus has a loaded group. Riding a six game winning streak, only loss is against Mayfield.
Mayfield Lady Trojans 14-1 The Lady Trojans are dangerous. They have one loss to Hobbs, who they have also beat on the year. Big game against Volcano Vista this week.
Clovis Lady Wildcats 13-1 The real deal and one of the lone threats in New Mexico to overthrow Hobbs in the end. Valle and La Cueva are next up, huge games.
Las Cruces Lady Bulldawgs 11-2 Struggled against Hobbs recently losing 47-34. They can rebound against Eldorado and Volcano Vista. If they lose three in a row, consider this group a pretender.
Volcano Vista Lady Hawks 8-2 Lost to La Cueva 56-52 in the APS Metro Tournament. Other loss comes to 3A Hope Christian losing 57-48. Still feel this group has final four capabilities.
La Cueva Lady Bears 8-2 Made a big statement by winning the APS Metro Tournament against Volcano Vista. Sophomore Alexa Romano is playing at another level. Take on Clovis on January 19th.
Eldorado Lady Eagles 8-2 The Eagles were upset by Hope Christian and lost to Volcano Vista in the APS Metro Tournament. Still a very capable team, take on Volcano Vista, Las Cruces, and Mayfield up next.
Sandia Lady Matadors 10-3 They beat Cleveland recently in the APS Metro Tournament which was a great win for season morale. Now they need to kick it into high gear and perfect their game before district.
Cibola Lady Cougars 9-3 The Cougars have a very good late January schedule which includes West Mesa, Gallup, Hope Christian, and Sandia. Still high on this unit.
4A
Santa Fe Lady Demons 13-0 Amazingly, the Demons are unbeaten at this point in the season. Big wins over Belen and Moriarty are their latest victims. Super Sophomore Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage is their impact player.
Gallup Lady Bengals 13-0 The Bengals rebounded against Kirtland Central winning 68-45 after their triple digit loss against Clovis. St. Pius X, Piedra Vista, and Cibola await in January. Need to continue to win against 4A comp.
Los Lunas Lady Tigers 9-2 They recently lost to Santa Fe Indian who you could say is the top tier program of Class 3A. Head Coach Marty Zellar and impact player Tiege Zeller have their work cut out for them in district, so late season slip ups will not help their NMAA seeding cause.
Espanola Valley Lady Sundevils 12-3 Their one point win over Grants was a statement and if their can beat Santa Fe Indian tonight, you could rank them No. 1 in Class 4A.
Artesia Lady Bulldogs 12-4 Very athletic team that should play sleeper in the tournament. Head Coach Jeff Houghtaling and Co. are going to give Roswell a run for the district.
Roswell Lady Coyotes 11-4 With just four losses, the Roswell Coyotes are a team you don't want to forget about or overlook in a late season match up. Coach Joe Carpenter's name has been brought up for Coach of the Year.
Valencia Lady Jaguars 10-4 Not as good as last year, but still capable of winning some games in the 2013 Tournament. They lost to Santa Fe Indian by just eight points.
3A
Santa Fe Indian Lady Braves 14-1 Head Basketball Coach Cindy Roybal wins period. The Lady Braves are 14-1, their lone season loss comes to Las Cruces 53-50.
Hope Christian Lady Huskies 10-2 Would be shocked if this team does not make the finals. They recently lost to La Cueva 39-38, but rebounded with a big 49-45 win over Eldorado. Marisa Perry is a top guard in New Mexico.
Lovington Lady Wildcats 13-3 First Year Head Coach Jason Parrish takes over the 3A defending state champs and they have really not skipped a beat. Cori Haley their senior post is one of the best regardless of Classification.
Shiprock Lady Chieftains 11-2 Basketball is big in Shiprock and this group has the talent to make some major noise this year. Not sure if they have more talent then Hope or Santa Fe Indian, but they are very good.
Thoreau Lady Hawks 12-3 This team has a shiny record, but are they more of a pretender than a contender? What worries us is their recent double digit loss to Kirtland Central.
Portales Lady Rams 11-4 One of the few Southern New Mexico 3A teams besides Lovington that is going to compete for the title. Their 36-32 win over Pojoaque was big a few days back.
West Las Vegas Lady Dons 10-4 Jose Medina's name should be mentioned in Coach of the Year consideration. They lost to Lovington by 10, but playing with the Wildcats for four quarters earned them some respect.
2A
Mora Lady Rangers 10-2 The Hoops 2A scene is led by Mora who is 4-1 over their last five games. A 65-60 loss to Taos is their only loss of the 2013 season. They also have a loss to 10-4 West Las Vegas.
Laguna Acoma Lady Hawks 13-3 They are 4-0 this 2013 year and their last loss dates back to 2012 where they lost to Academy by 9. This team can put up points, having hit the 70 point mark several times this season.
Dexter Lady Demons 11-5 One of the hottest teams in New Mexico as they are riding an eight game winning streak. Their latest wins come against Jal and Hagerman. They are playing very well, but their competition looks to be weak.
Loving Lady Falcons 8-4 The dark horse team of the 2013 season has win four games in a row. They beat Jal and Lake Arthur. What do those late season wins really mean is the question.
1A
Cliff Lady Cowgirls 13-1 Have just one loss which comes against Duncan, Arizona.
Tatum Lady Coyotes 12-1 Have just one loss which comes against Plains, Texas.
Jemez Valley Lady Warriors 11-2 Always dangerous during the late season. Lost to Navajo Pine and Sandia Prep on the year.
Ft. Sumner Lady Foxes 9-3 Yearly, the Foxes make the run to the title game. Lost to Texico a week ago 31-27.
McCurdy Lady Bobcats 9-4 Have great success this season, however they are 2-2 in their last four games.
