Mayfield just finished the regular season 9-1, so did Farmington. Michael Bradley, the Head Football Coach at Mayfield High School and Gary Bradley, the Head Football Coach at Farmington High School are the sons of Jim Bradley Sr., one of the greatest New Mexico High School Football Coaches of All-Time. Today, we look back on Jim Bradley Sr., who won a total of 310-career games from 1971-2005.

The news came as a shock to the State of New Mexico High School Football Community when legendary football coach Jim Bradley Sr. suffered a stroke in February of 2012.
His overall recovery is slow and it's likely that we will never have Bradley on the sidelines of the Trojans again, it's hard to think about and just plain sad. Bradley won his first state football title as head coach of the Trojans back in 1971, but after the 1972 season he moved to Roswell to coach the Coyotes. Bradley would go on to win two state titles (1987/1988) at Roswell High.
His offensive coordinator during that time frame was Kirk Potter, also on the staff was Jack Cisco along with Jim Hite, and Jim Miller was his quarterback during the 1982 and 1983 season. Potter went one to win one state title at Cleveland, Hite would win a state title at Goddard, Cisco would win a state title at Roswell, and Miller has won 5 state titles as Head Football Coach at Las Cruces High School. From Roswell, Bradley moved back to Las Cruces and this time he would become the New Mexico State Aggies Head Football Coach for 5-years where he pulled off an impressive (23-31-1) coaching record.
Bradley then became the Head Football Coach at Mayfield again during the 1994 season and before he retired as Head Coach in 2005 he had taken the Trojans to 9 state title games, winning the blue trophy in 1995, 1996, 1998, and in 2005. Bradley would finish his high school coaching career with a total of 310 career victories (333-wins total as a Head Football Coach).
While Bradley's presence will be forever missed on the sidelines his two sons have kept the Bradley name synonymous with success at the New Mexico High School Football Scene.
Bradley has three sons (Jim Jr. Michael, and Gary), two of which are currently New Mexico High School Head Football Coaches. Michael who took over the Trojans back in 2006 and Gary Bradley who is the Head Football Coach at Farmington High School.
Michael has won 4 state titles at Mayfield (2006, 2007, 2008, and in 2010). Gary, the former offensive coordinator at Mayfield took over Farmington during the 2008 season and has built up Farmington Football over the last six seasons.
Mayfield finished the regular season 9-1 beating two Texas 5A Football Playoff Teams this season and just beat the former No. 1 ranked Las Cruces Bulldawgs to earn the No. 2 overall seed in the Class 5A Football Bracket. Farmington beat Piedra Vista last weekend 21-6 to win the District 1-4A Title as they would finish also at 9-1 and also earn the No. 2 overall seed in the Class 4A Football Bracket.
Jim Bradley Sr. is likely never going to be down on the sidelines again, but his spirit is still around. He played a major role in where New Mexico High School Football is today.

In Bradley's Own Words

I had last caught up with Bradley back in 2011 during a campus preview of the Mayfield Trojans. He came up to me with a piece of paper and asked me personally if I would transcribe his following written statement." (Keep in mind that this was written in 2011 by Bradley himself)
****
Since I've retired as Head Football Coach At Mayfield High School in 2006 my son Michael Bradley has a record of 58-10 with three state titles, two undefeated seasons, and one runner up trophy.
I am very proud of the program's accomplishments since that time and I'm just as proud of those team goals in the 4-games of the 2010 season. To end with a run last year in the play-offs beating Rio Rancho, Cleveland, La Cueva, and then the climax with a 69-42 victory over Manzano (almost perfect offensive game).
I can sleep on that 10-4 season for the rest of my life and not really care so much about 308, 309, 310, or 3011 career wins or whatever my overall record is. And the older I get, the less I worry about any of that.
Also take into account 5-Years as the Head Coach at New Mexico State University going 5-6, 5-6, 5-6, and 4-6-1, and 4-7 (23-31-1) overall at New Mexico as a head coach. It's not the record that counts. How many games total has any other Head Football Coach at New Mexico State won?
I've been in this great profession long enough to realize and understand that the most victories are symbolic of team efforts over the years.
It's a testament to the two school's Mayfield and Roswell and something special for the two communities. To parents, to players, and to all the coaching staffs that I've been associated with 308, 309, 310, I counted 311 in Dan Ford's New Mexico High School Football Book, whatever my overall record is, that's merely 38-years of great times.
