Las Cruces looks to end title drought, claim top spot in Class 6A
Few teams have been impacted more by the steady shift in the balance of power among the largest high schools in New Mexico over the past three years than the Las Cruces Bulldawgs.
Since 2014, Rio Rancho (2014, 2016) and Cleveland (2015) have shared the last three Class 6A state championships. Prior to the NMAA’s reclassification, Las Cruces won state championships in 2012 and 2013, and three titles within a stretch of six years.
In some ways, the current three-year title drought probably feels like a decade or more to Bulldawg loyalists.
Six months ago, Las Cruces advanced to the 6A championship game before falling to Rio Rancho on the Rams’ home field, 39-17.
