Lordsburg Wins Class 2A State Title

The Lordsburg Mavericks are your Class 2A state football champions after defeating the Ft. Sumner Foxes today in the 2A state title game 34-26.

The Mavericks finished the season 8-2 on the season under Head Coach Louie Baisa. On the season the Mavericks only two season losses came against Anthony, Texas and Cobre. Lordsburg Quarterback Johnny Plowman who made headlines earlier this week for his efforts in raising 3K for a young girl in Animas, New Mexico threw for over 1,800-yards this year and accounted for more than 30 touchdowns. This is Lordsburg's first state football championship since the 2006 season.

The Lordsburg Maverick Football Team is gearing up for the Class 2A State Football Championship this weekend against Ft. Sumner. Now 7-2 on the season after beating Escalante last weekend 45-22 in the semifinals the Mavericks are one game away from a state championship. While the glory or defeat of the game will come and go from this Saturday’s 2A final, one thing that will be remembered is Johnny Plowman’s thoughtfulness and generosity.
