Top Five heading towards 2013
1. Cleveland storm
Buzz: Cleveland Storm. No changes here the Storm won the Las Cruces invite in impressive fashion with a large point margin over a tough Franklin El Paso, TX team and Volcano Vista. Top Wrestlers Include: Paul Mascarenas, Cleveland, Clayton Pankey, Cleveland, Trey Nicoley, Cleveland, Julian Roybal, Cleveland, A.J. Lermuseaux, Cleveland, Angel Castillo, Cleveland, and Zack Formento, Cleveland. Hendo's Take: What is most impressive is their shwoing in Las Cruces and winning the Rio Rancho Dual. Paul Mascarenas at 113 is one of the best pure wrestlers we've seen in a long time as he continues to dominate.
2. Rio rancho rams
Buzz: Rio Rancho Rams. The Rams are still the second best team in the state. Having three placers at the TOC is defiantly a step in getting there #1 ranking back. Top Wrestlers Include: Robert Salgado, Jordan Lara, John Salazar-Rio Rancho, Orlando Gutierrez-Rio Rancho, Miguel Barreras, Rio Rancho. Not sure if Rio Rancho has enough talent this year to overthrow rival Cleveland, but if anyone is money during crunch time, it's the Rio Rancho Rams who have been on the big stage for what seems like forever. Robert Salgodo or Jordan Lara are pound for pound their aces.
3. Piedra Vista Panthers.
Buzz: The Panters won there own tourney in dominating fashion  75-6 vs Belen and another lop sided win vs the 3A defending state champions, St. Mikes. This team is loaded with talent and will be tough to knock off. The Panthers are returning nine state placers. Anthony Jukes Piedra Vista, Sam Sandoval, Piedra Vista. Class 4A is chasing the defending champ and while they dominate this year, they are not unbeatable.
4. Rio Grande Ravens
Buzz: The Rio Grande Ravnes knocked Volcano Vista down a notch by racking up some major points at the APS tourney this past weekend. Rio Grande outscored Volcano Vista (2nd place) 239.50 to 165.00 in what was a huge statewide statement. Rio Grande's top wrestlers include: Isaac Lopez at 106, clayton Arellano at 126, Matias Sainz at 138, Leo Maestas at 170, Logan Wolfel at 160, Nicholas Chavez at 159, and Zachary Garris at 285
5. Volcano Vista Hawks
Buzz: Finished second behind Cleveland in Las Cruces and second behind Rio Grande at APS. Still a highly respectable team, Volcano Vista should of received a wake up call at the APS Invite. Overall this group has a wealth of talent and and wants another shot at Rio Grande as they look down the road towards the end of wrestling season. Top Wrestlers include: Osaoah Flores at 113, Cameron Huizar at 120, Lawrence Otero at 145 who may be one of the best in New Mexico. Nate Sierra at 170, and Joshua Trujillo at 220.
