checking to figure out which exact 100 teams would be included. With help from New Mexico High School Football Historian Dan Ford and his latest History of New Mexico High School Football Books, I was able to narrow down the best of the best from the years gone by.
I'm a numbers guy and everyone that follows NMPreps.com knows that what I lack in writing skills, I make up for with graphs, charts, stats, etc. I devised a power ranking for each team that stood out throughout the years.
Points for, points against, points scored in a season, points allowed in a season, number of shutouts in a season, number of games won, and the big one: whether or not a team won a state title at the end of the season.
Knowing that I could get all those numbers accurately that is the direction I went with the power rankings.
Throughout all the feedback and e-mails I've received throughout the top 100 countdown, most has been positive, however there has been some critics commenting that the rankings are not accurate because of this and that.
My answer is this: All rankings are debatable and with the system that I used, I strongly feel that these rankings are the best depiction of the top 100 teams that you'll see. The system that I used excluded no team and the same principles were used to rank each team within the top 100. I have also updated the rankings after the 2014 Football Season and in no surprise the 2014 Rio Rancho Rams and the 2014 Artesia Bulldogs made the cut.

#49 2006 Mayfield 13-0
Hendo's Breakdown: In 2005, the Trojans had won an outstanding 14 games in their perfect run to winning the state title over Clovis. With Junior Quarterback Matthew Sandoval taking over the helm and emerging athlete Nathan Enriquez about o make his mark, Mayfield fans still liked their chances of winning another state title. They started off the season with a 21-13 win in Clovis thanks to Chris Hutchins three touchdown performance. They then beat Carlsbad and escaped Montwood, El Paso 15-14 to start the year 3-0 and keep the winning streak in tacked at 17 games in a row. The Trojans then beat three Metro teams with ease before running through the district. A 40-7 win over Las Cruces extended their winning streak to 24 games as the Trojans finished the regular season 10-0. In the play-offs they beat La Cueva 31-0 and then had to stop Sandia on the goal line to win the semifinals 21-14. In the title game against Alamogordo, Mayfield started off the game with a double reverse touchdown pass that set the tone for the game. Between 2005 and 2007 Mayfield won 41 games and three state titles. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#48 1999 La Cueva 10-1
Hendo's Breakdown: The La Cueva Bears were close to becoming a Metro Power in the late 90's, but the overall talent was not quite there. In '98 they went a disappointing 5-6, but the following year things began to turn the corner in Bear Country. They knocked off Manzano, Sandia, and Eldorado in back-to-back-back games. They rolled through Gallup, beat Rio Grande, and had a close call nearly losing to Farmington in a 35-28 shootout. In district they were pretty much unstoppable pound district opponents like Santa Fe, Del Norte, and Capital. They beat Capital 84-0 and beat Santa Fe 62-6. At 10-0 on the season their weak end of the year schedule caught up with them and they were beat 21-14 by Roswell. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#47 2012 Las Cruces 12-1
Hendo's Breakdown: Las Cruces entered the 2012 season as the NMPreps.com Preseason Number One, a large part to do with that was the size of their offensive line that averaged over 285 pounds. They opened the season with a big 38-14 win over EP Chapin, then beat Cibola 48-8, before losing to Rio Rancho 42-21. That lose would be their last loss as they went on to win 10 in a row beating Mayfield in their annual rivalry game 36-13, beating Eldorado in the playoffs 55-28, before beating Sandia 35-28 in the finals.

#46 1976 Artesia 11-1
Hendo's Breakdown: The 70's had some of the most dominate Artesia Bulldog Football teams ever and after winning the title in '74 and in '75, Artesia had enough talent once again to make a run at three straight during the 1976 season. A quick 3-0 start boosted their win streak up to five games from the previous season, but a week four loss to Alamogordo 15-14 brought the Dogs back down to reality. From the loss they responded quite well beating Roswell, Pecos, Texas, Alpine, Texas, and Portales in big fashion. They shut out Portales 42-0, shutout Tucumcari 52-0, and shutout Lovington 42-0 in consecutive games. They then beat Taos and in the semifinals and beat a loaded Socorro team in the title game 46-7. #45 1980 Artesia 13-1
Hendo's Breakdown: The 1980 Bulldog season opened up with a 7-0 loss to Hobbs, it was the same score as the year before against Hobbs, with the Bulldogs winning the game. After the ironic start, the Bulldogs beat Roswell, Tularosa, Carlsbad, and a good Fabens, Texas team to sit at 4-1 on the season. A three touchdown win over Goddard and a three monster district wins ended the Bulldogs season at 9-1 through the regular season. In the play-offs the beat Raton 35-3, beat Socorro 42-10, and then beat Bloomfield in the title game 50-30. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#44 1995 Mayfield 13-1
Hendo's Breakdown: Bradley's return as Head Coach of the Trojans sparked the surge of the Trojans and in 1995 the Trojans were off to a quick start at 3-0 heading into their match up with Irvin, Texas. A 10-0 loss put the Trojans at 3-1 on the year, but that was the only loss the Trojans would wear all season long. The next five weeks were signs that Mayfield was now unbeatable. After that loss they beat Albuquerque 21-0, beat Manzano 21-7, beat Alamogordo 34-6, beat Gadsden 34-6, and beat Onate 32-0. In their end of the year rivalry game against Las Cruces they won 56-22 and beat Manzano 42-3 in round one of the play-offs. A 23-7 win over Roswell paired them against a very solid Clovis Wildcats team in the title game. In one of the best games in prep football history, Mayfield beat Clovis 13-12. Mayfield would win back-to-back titles the following year. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#43 1996 Mayfield 13-1
Hendo's Breakdown: When you think Mayfield Football in the present day, you think state titles and big time football, however in the early 90's Mayfield was a laughing stock until 1994. The return of Head Coach Jim Bradley quickly restored the Mayfield Trojans and in the fall of 1996 the Trojans claimed the state title over Manzano. Sitting at 1-1 after a loss to Tucson Amphtheate, the Trojans rocked nearly all the opponents they faced. With withs over La Cueva, Manzano, and a 42-0 win over Las Cruces Mayfield ended the regular season at 9-1. in round one of the play-offs they were nearly upset by Goddard in a 27-26 overtime thriller. They then beat Highland 21-14 and beat Manzano in the title game 14-0. Most still say the title game was played in round one giants Goddard. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#42 1993 Goddard 12-1
Hendo's Breakdown: Over the years the Goddard Rockets have had some amazing teams, but ironically none have gone undefeated. If the 1993 team or the 1997 team would of went perfect they might both be in the top 10 rankings, that is how good each team was. The 1993 team won their first game by just one point beating El Paso Irvin 21-20. They then beat Artesia 47-28 and then beat Eldorado 42-7. During district play they beat Hobbs 52-25, beat Carlsbad 43-18, beat Clovis 34-17, and beat Alamogordo 42-7. At 9-0 on the year the Rockets faced their cross town rival, the Roswell Coyotes and would be upset 20-15. During the play-offs they beat Sandia 46-0, beat Del Norte 49-7, and then beat Clovis 24-21 in the title game. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#41 2010 Lovington 12-2
Hendo's Breakdown: Coming off a state title during the 2009 season, most expected Lovington to again defend their crown with All-State Quarterback Jacob Jameson returning for his senior season. After start the season with a 63-49 loss to Artesia, in a game the Wildcats probably feel they should of won, the Wildcats won their next five game in big fashion. They beat Andrews, Texas big, they beat Ft. Stockton, Texas big, and then pounded West Las Vegas by 47 points. Heading into the Lee County Rivalry Game Against 5A Hobbs the Wildcats simply air it out to a 41-28 victory. The win over Hobbs was big and gave them tons of momentum heading into district. They blasted both Portales and Ruidoso and were 8-1 in the final regular season game against 9-0 Goddard. Goddard's defense had been allowing less than a touchdown per game, but it's as though defense on both sides never existed as Goddard nearly escaped with a 53-52 win. Lovington would cruise through the play-offs against St. Michael's, Robertson, and beat Academy in the finals 60-43. Quarterback Jacob Jameson threw for 3,624-yards and 60 touchdowns on the season. #40 1992 La Cueva 12-1
Hendo's Breakdown: The Bears started off hot in the early 90's winning a combined 29 games during the '90, '91, and '92 season. In 1992 the Bears were loaded to say the least. But after beating Highland and West Mesa by a combined 92-7, the Bears were beaten by Roswell 16-13. After that short setback, the Bears rocked the rest of the comp on the year. They beat Mayfield 47-6, then rolled through six district opponents with no trouble at all. In round one of the play-off against Cibola they beat the Cougars 42-18 and then beat Clovis 28-25 in the semifinals. In the title game against Roswell the only team to of beaten them on the season, La Cueva got some sweet revenge winning 35-0 to hoist their first title of the 90's. #38 1970 Hobbs 12-1
Hendo's Breakdown: During the late 60's the Hobbs Eagles were a prep football power to say the least and in the fall of 1970, the Eagles posted their most impressive season that still outlives any of the current success the Eagles have in this day and age. They had lost the 1969 state title against Artesia 21-8 and to open the 1970 season, the ironically played the Artesia Bulldogs. For the sixth straight time leading back to the 1965 season the Bulldogs once again beat the Hobbs Eagles and the '70 team that was stacked with talent sat at 0-1 to start the season. From the loss the Eagles went on to win 12 game in a row. Wins over Kermit, Texas, Lubbock Coronado, and El Paso Bel Air had Hobbs rolling right into district. They beat Carlsbad, Goddard, Clovis, and Lovington by a combined 164-0. They beat Santa Fe in the semifinals 35-16 and then beat Highland in the finals 20-0. Hobbs would again win the title in 1972. #37 2000 Las Cruces 13-1
Hendo's Breakdown: The Bulldawgs were coming off one of their best seasons ever in 1999 going 14-0 and with a loaded core returning, most felt that Las Cruces would be unbeatable once again in the start of the new decade. A humbling 21-0 loss to Roswell was an early season eye opener and from there on out, Las Cruces was quickly back to their winning ways the next 13 weeks. They smashed Goddard, smashed Onate, beat Artesia by two scores, flew through Silver and in district play they beat Alamogordo 69-15, beat Gadsden by 21, beat Los Lunas 55-6, and beat cross town rival Mayfield 30-7. #36 2012 Los Lunas 12-1
Hendo's Breakdown: Under the Head Coach Jeremy Newton the Los Lunas Tigers were a yearly top team and 2012 was a year it looked like they would be perfect. Quarterback Chris Wisneski was a three-year returner at quarterback, Jalen Chavez was a three-year returner at running back, Darron Gallegos was a three-year returner at linebacker, they were just loaded. They beat Aztec in the opener 50-28, then beat Alamogordo 20-0, beat Del Norte 51-3, then beat Sandia 20-7 (year Sandia reached the 5A state title game), they then beat St. Pius X 41-6, beat rival Belen 40-0, beat Grants 50-0, beat Miyamura 58-8, beat Valencia 46-0, beat Piedra Vista 47-7, beat Aztec 24-20 in a thriller, then took on Goddard for the 4A state title game, where they would lose on a last second field goal to finish the year 12-1.

#35 1966 Artesia 12-0
Hendo's Breakdown: Artesia has always been a prep football power from the days they opened the high school. In the 1966 season they formed one of the best teams in the entire state lead by a monster offense and a steal curtain for defense. They beat four Texas teams to start the season (EP Cathedral, Monahans, Irvin, and Eastwood). The Bulldogs outscored each of those four teams by a combined 94-9. They then beat their first New Mexico team which was Las Cruces by a score of 28-0 and then beat Hobbs, Clovis, and Carlsbad in convincing fashion as well. Late in the season it seemed as though no team would come close to beating the Bulldogs and that assumption was right on. They beat Highland 40-14 in the title game. Between 1966 and 1969 Artesia won 45 games and four straight back-to-back titles. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#34 2008 Las Cruces 13-0
Hendo's Breakdown: During the 2007 season, Las Cruces was led by two-junior player makers in Dante Caro at quarterback and James Hall at running back. The two were NMPreps.com Mr. Football Candidates as juniors, but were outgunned by Clovis in the semifinals 37-29. Returning a ton of talent to the 2008 season, the Dawgs simply rolled from the get-go. With big wins over El Paso Eldorado and El Paso Eastwood to start the season, it was clear that this Las Cruces team was the best in the state. Wins against La Cueva in week three and against Manzano in week five pushed Las Cruces to the top of the polls, however Albuquerque Eldorado held the number one spot as they were unbeaten as well. Big wins over Artesia, Onate, and Alamogordo pushed the Dawgs to a 9-0 record heading into their annual rivalry game against Mayfield. In a thrilling ball game, that Mayfield had the lead during, Las Cruces found a way to come back and beat Mayfield 22-21 to end the season at 10-0. In the play-offs they again slugged it out with Manzano and then beat Mayfield 35-7 in the semifinals. Playing against 12-0 Eldorado, Las Cruces would take advantage of a special teams blunder and edge out the Eagles 26-21. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#33 1991 Clovis 12-2
Hendo's Breakdown: The early 90's were big years for the Clovis Wildcat's Football Program. They won the state title in 1990 going 13-1 with a 28-0 win over Eldorado. Though they lost a good amount of talent to graduation, they had enough talent to potential make another run at the state title. Surprisingly, this talented team was beaten in week two by Amarillo High 21-13. At 5-1 they faced Eldorado the team they beat the year before in the title game and with a chip on their shoulder, Eldorado topped Clovis this time 14-7. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#32 1990 Clovis 13-1
Hendo's Breakdown: The Wildcats started off the 1990 season in style with a crushing 51-0 win over Portales, but in week two they would be humbled in a 17-14 loss to Amarillo High. Wins over Plainview, Texas and Borger, Texas again sparked their football team's momentum and Clovis would win their next 10 games against New Mexico teams to claim the state title. During district play Clovis beat Hobbs, Roswell, Carlsbad, and Alamogordo to finish the year at 9-1. In the play-offs they beat Manzano 34-6, beat La Cueva 24-7, and beat Eldorado in the finals 28-0. From 1980 to 1990 Clovis played the following: Palo Duro, Tascosa, Plainview, Amarillo High, Pampa, Canyon, Lawton (Oklahoma), Hereford, Lubbock High, and Borger. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#31 1988 Roswell 13-1
Hendo's Breakdown: Mickey Reeves one of the best athletes ever to come out of New Mexico was finally a senior and after the Coyotes won the title his junior year, most expected Roswell to again make another run at the title. A three touchdown win over Goddard in the opener and a 35-0 win over Artesia were quick signs that Roswell was absolutely loaded. A close 14-9 win over Hanks, El Paso had Roswell at 5-0 and the Coyotes were riding an 11 game winning streak. A 42-0 win over Gallup and a 40-0 win over Hobbs made it seem that Roswell was nearly unbeatable, but in week eight the Coyotes were finally tamed at least for one week with a 14-7 loss to Clovis. They finished the year with a 3-1 district record and a 9-1 regular season record. In the play-offs they beat Farmington 41-17, beat Las Cruces 24-21 in overtime, and would meet up with Clovis for a shot at revenge in the title game. Dominating the whole game, Roswell would beat Cloivs 14-3 to win their second state title in a row. Between 1986 and 1988 Roswell won 36 games. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#29 2001 Clovis 13-0
Hendo's Breakdown: It's hard to believe that in the over 30-years of Head Coaching for Eric Roanhaus, that just one team has gone undefeated under his storied program. Of course, throughout the years Clovis has played some of the toughest non-district schedules which has made them a title contender nearly every year. In 2000, the Wildcats went 4-6 with big losses to Eldorado, Hobbs, and to Carlsbad down the stretch. They were beaten by Manzano in the play-offs to end the dismal season. The following year, a seasoned group of varsity letterman stayed in the weight room nearly all season long for what would be the Wildcat season to remember. From the get-go, it was clear that Clovis was big time. With a 4-0 early season record they beat Borger, Texas to move to 5-0 on the season. From the Borger game on they would beat their next five regular season opponents by a combined 195-20. Along the way they shutout Borger, Goddard, Eldorado, and beat Hobbs and Carlsbad by a combined 71-14. The Mayfield Trojans and Clovis Wildcats both ended the season with a 10-0 regular season record and were seeded at the opposite ends of the play-offs. Clovis beat Las Cruces in the opening round 45-17, then beat Sandia 35-6, and it was the match up everyone wanted to see in the finals. 12-0 Clovis vs. 12-0 Mayfield. In a action packed game with furious hits and some huge offensive plays, Clovis Legendary Head Coach Eric Roanhaus would beat Mayfield Legendary Head Coach Jim Bradley in a game that goes down as one of the greatest title games ever. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#28 1975 Las Cruces 13-0
Hendo's Breakdown: The 1974 season for the Las Cruces Bulldawgs was about as bad as it gets with the Dawgs going 1-7-2. The year before in '73 the Dawgs went 1-8-1. The 1975 season returned a ton of talent and maybe what made them so good towards the end of the year was the fact that they played their first five games against Texas Schools. Beating El Paso High, Bowie, Riverside, and Andress the Dawgs were 5-0 when they met their first New Mexico team. They continued to dominate and really their only close game during the regular season was against Mayfield in a 21-13 victory. During the play-offs they beat Los Alamos 41-10, beat Del Norte 27-0 (Del Norte had went 13-0 the year before) and then beat Eldorado 29-15 in the finals. They held three teams to one score and shut out three others. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#27 2013 Las Cruces 12-1
Hendo's Breakdown: After beating Sandia 35-28 in the 2012 5A state title game the graduating seniors said, "Wait until you see the underclassmen coming up." The Buldawgs entered the 2013 season winning 10-in a row and picked up were they left off winning 9-straight. They beat EP Chapin 56-14, beat Eldorado 38-8, beat Cibola 47-12, beat Rio Rancho 42-6, beat La Cueva 20-0, beat Artesia 54-0, beat Onate 55-19, beat Alamogordo 50-0, beat Gadsden 28-0 and finally it was Mayfield that ended their 19-game winning streak beating Las Cruces 28-20 in front of 20K at Aggie Memorial. The two teams would be in the 5A state championship with Las Cruces winning 27-26 in front of 25K. Mayfield scored late in the game to tie it, but Las Cruces' Jalen Bishop blocked the PAT and that's how it ended. JJ Granados ended the year rushing for over 2,000-yards and scored 41 touchdowns and would go on to win the NMPreps.com Mr. Football Award.

#26 2001 Mayfield 13-1
Hendo's Breakdown: The greatest team to never win the state title is the 2001 Mayfield Trojans. As you read a few spots up, the 13-0 perfect Clovis Wildcats topped Mayfield in the 2001 title game 17-10. The 2001 Trojans were flat out dominate from the start of the season and won their first nine games by way of knockout. Literally the Trojans blasted everyone in their path. They beat Goddard 13-0, beat Carlsbad 49-0, beat Riverside, Texas 48-0, beat La Cueva 33-3, beat Sandia 42-0, beat Onate 28-0, beat Roswell 42-6, beat Gadsden 56-0, beat Los Lunas 42-0, and beat Alamogordo 45-7. Las Cruces gave them somewhat of a game 21-9, then the Trojans beat Manzano in the play-offs 37-7, beat La Cueva in the semifinals only 10-7 in a thriller, only to be beaten one week later in the finals to Clovis 17-10. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com.

#25 1980 Eldorado 13-0
Hendo's Breakdown: The start of the 80's decade belonged to Eldorado. Going 12-1 in 1978 and going 11-2 in 1979, Eldorado had knocked on the state title door a few times, but had just run into some very good football teams to be denied the trophy. Led by future NFL quarterback Jim Everett, the Eagles would start the season with a 35-14 win over Santa Fe, the same team that beat them the year before in the state title game 19-15. After that three touchdown win, Eldorado had tons of momentum and went on to shut out their next five opponents. Wins over Sandia, Highland, Del Norte, and Manzano had the Eagles ranked number one with a 6-0 record. In district play they beat Belen, Rio Grande, Valley, and Cibola scoring an average of 35 points in their last five games. They opened the play-offs with a 48-0 win over Gallup, beat Highland 13-7 in the semifinals, and then beat Clovis 14-11 to win the title game. Everett went on to sign with Purdue before begging drafted by the Los Angeles Rams. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#24 2012 Goddard 13-0
info icon
Embed content not availableManage privacy settings
Hendo's Breakdown: Former Goddard Rocket Coach Sam Jernigan had only one perfect season which came in 2012. The Rockets entered the 2012 season following a 28-27 loss to Aztec in the 4A State Finals in 2011. The Rockets were loaded with guys like Anthony Ornelas, Kelsey Cunningham, Cody French, Thomas Perea, Fabian Soto, David Chavers, Kullen Wooten, David Sweet, and Nik Aston all returning with veteran experience. The Rockets were didn't have a scrimmage that year (couldn't find one) and were open in week 1, so that meant they would open the season week 2 against Aztec at the Wool Bowl and it was payback as the Rockets rolled 63-0. Goddard then beat Rio Rancho 21-17, beat Belen 27-7, beat Hobbs 54-0, beat Clovis 52-21, beat Carlsbad 20-17, beat Lovington 28-0, and were 7-0 going into district play. The Rockets then thumped Artesia 49-19, blew out Roswell 52-6, beat Moriarty 34-7 in the quarterfinals, beat Belen 35-7 in the semifinals and would meet up with Los Lunas another undefeated juggernaut in the finals and on the road. In a packed atmosphere at Tiger Stadium, Kelsey Cunningham kicked a field goal in the final seconds to give Goddard a 17-14 state championship, the Rocket's first ever perfect season at 13-0.

#23 1998 Artesia 13-0

Hendo's Breakdown: The Bulldogs were coming off back-to-back titles from the 1996 and the 1997 season, but the 1998 season is where they finally reached ultimate perfection. The Bulldogs had lost a total of three games in the last three years and while winning the title was grand, the achieved the perfect season by going undefeated, made it that much sweeter in 1998. The Bulldogs buried Robertson in week one 66-8, then beat Hobbs, Roswell, and barely got passed Goddard 13-12. They beat larger schools like Carlsbad and Las Cruces with ease before going undefeated in the district. They finished out the year 10-0 and beat St. Pius X 33-14 in the play-offs, then beat Kirtland Central 42-14 in the semifinals before beating Ruidoso 35-9 in the finals. Their impressive 38 points per game average along with their perfect record makes them one of the best ever, but still not the best Artesia team of All-time, in fact they are not even close. Hendo's Breakdown: Checking in at number 29 is one of the biggest, meanest, and according to our top 100 prep football rankings the second greatest team in New Mexico High School Football to never to win a title. Central 41-6, rocked Blanding, Utah 42-13, and then beat two more Colorado teams by a combined 102-0. During district play, Aztec stomped every team posting offensive scores of 75 and 81 points. In the final game of the regular season, Aztec was played within four points by Kirtland Central in a 13-9 game, still Aztec finished the season with a 10-0 regular record. #21 1990 Lovington 13-0
Hendo's Breakdown: Hendo's Breakdown: Head Football Coach Speedy Faith put together some amazing teams during his tenure with Lovington. Sure it helps to have players like Brian Urlacher, Heath Ridenour, and Caden/Jacob Jameson. During the 1989 season Lovington had lost in the tittle game to Goddard in double overtime 6-0. With a great amount of talent returning to the 1990 season, Lovington opened the season with big wins over Robertson, Ruidoso, and Lubbock, Texas. At 3-0 they then beat Hobbs 21-6, beat Silver 33-0, and beat Carlsbad 14-0. During district play they got their revenge against Goddard in a 29-22 slugfest, then beat Portales in a thriller 7-6, and beat Artesia 19-7 to end the year at 10-0 during the regular season. Another win over Robertson in the play-offs, then a 43-0 win over Grants in the semifinals paired them against a loaded Bloomfield Bobcats team. A hard-fought 13-7 victory gave Lovington the title. Five years later with Brian Urlacher as a senior Lovington would go 14-0. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#20 2009 Belen 12-1
Hendo's Breakdown: New Head Football Coach John Lerma had taken over Belen just one year before and took Belen from a 5-6 team in 2007 to a 10-2 team in 2008. Returning some quality running backs to the 2009 season, Belen was ready to make a deep run at the play-offs. They started off just crushing teams. Beating Deming 42-6, beat Aztec 63-34, beat Los Lunas 50-0, beat Roswell 62-0, then beat Los Alamos 54-8. It was clear after their week two win over Aztec, that Belen was again the real deal, but this year they looked like a title contender. Faced against district opponent Volcano Vista in a pivotal district title game, Belen did what they had done all year and rocked another team this time 35-14. Belen then beat Deming in the play-offs 58-6, then beat Aztec again 58-19, before facing Goddard in the state finals. In front of 6,000 fans in Belen, a gusty performance from Goddard Quarterback David Vega stopped Belen's perfect season. Final score was 28-21. 2009 Goddard is ranked in the top 100 #88. #19 1987 Roswell 13-1
Hendo's Breakdown: A big time prospect by the name of Mickey Reeves was making waves already for the Coyotes as only a junior and with some very good surrounding talent, Roswell who had just lost the title game in 1986 to Highland once again looked like a title contender in week one against Goddard in a 48-0 victory. The Coyotes would rattle off seven games in a row in big fashion. Notable wins came against Artesia, Sandia, Lovington and against Hobbs. At 7-0, the Coyotes faced Clovis and were beaten 16-0 for their first loss of the season. From the shutout, Roswell responded in big fashion winning their next six games in a row. They beat Las Cruces 21-15 in the semifinals and then beat Mayfield 29-7 in the title game. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#18 2009 La Cueva 12-1
Hendo's Breakdown: The excitement was building in Bear Nation as La Cueva entered the 2009 season with a very talented senior squad and a junior running back by the name of Ronnie Daniels. After a beating Rio Grande 55-0 in the opener, the Bears gave up a two-touchdown lead to Manzano to fall 31-27 in a very thrilling football game. At 1-1, the Bears pressed on. They beat Clovis 27-14, beat Eldorado 49-0, beat Cibola 39-20, and then just rolled through the district outscoring the opposition by 216-22. They ended the season with a 9-1 record and then beat Hobbs 52-7 in the first round of the play-offs. The following week the got another shot at Manzano and though the Bears trailed in the final minutes of the game, they reeled off an impressive scoring drive and went for two to beat Manzano 25-24. The next week they would steamroll past Mayfield in the title game 31-14, in a game where Ronnie Daniels would run for 250-yards off nearly 50-carries. #17 1968 Artesia 12-0
Hendo's Breakdown: An old school team that played a potent schedule from the get-go won 12 games in a row in big fashion. They started off against four Texas Teams. Beat Burges 41-20, beat Monahans 40-6, beat Irvin 33-14, then beat Eastwood 34-7. Then their schedule was easily (Kidding) they beat Las Cruces 34-7, beat Clovis 34-14, beat Carlsbad 42-7, beat Mayfield 55-14, beat Alamogordo, Hobbs, and Roswell before beating Sandia 40-0 in the finals. One of the toughest teams running through one of the toughest schedules there was at that time. No team today in 2011 would want to play that schedule and Artesia blew through them all with ease. One of the best teams ever period. Artesia won the title in '66, '67, '68, and in '69. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#16 1974 Artesia 13-0
Hendo's Breakdown: The 1974 Artesia Bulldogs had an amazing run and it followed a 2-8 season record in 1973. They opened with Goddard, Mayfield, and Eldorado. Three tough games, but the Dogs managed to get to 3-0. They then beat Irvin, Texas, Roswell, and then put the hammer down on their next five opponents. At 5-0 on the season, Artesia beat their remaining five teams on the schedule by a combined 222-3. #15 1997 Goddard 13-1
Hendo's Breakdown: One Head Coach that never gets enough credit is Goddard Head Coach Sam Jernigan. Though Goddard has never posted a perfect season under Jernigan (Record Wise) the Rockets came very close in the fall of 1997. They opened the season two monster wins. They beat Onate and Alamogordo in back-to-back weeks by a combined score of 79-0. At 3-0 after beating Andress, Texas they played region rival Artesia and were beaten 14-13. That one point loss would be their only loss of the season. They then beat Sandia, Highland, and Lovington by a combined 139-13. They had shut out four opponents through six games. In district they beat Hobbs 35-0, snuck past Clovis 22-18, and beat Roswell and Carlsbad handily. In the play-offs they pounded Manzano 40-10, beat Eldorado 42-20, and met Clovis a team they had only beat by four points in the finals. In a bone crushing type game, Goddard's defense came up big once again in a 3-0 shutout to win the state title game. Numbers wise, this looks to be the best ever Goddard Rocket's team, still one more team from Goddard is ranked higher. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#14 2010 Aztec 12-1
Hendo's Breakdown: Hendo's Breakdown: The Aztec Tigers have flirted with the 4A State Title four times since 2003. They have lost all four title games under Head Coach Brad Hirsch. In 2003 they lost to Artesia 35-14, in 2005 they lost to Silver 27-20, in 2008 they lost to Goddard 49-45, and in 2010 they lost to Artesia 45-34. Coming off a rare four loss season in 2009, the Aztec Tigers returned 21 starters on both sides of the football and it was pretty much a lock and load season. The Tigers smashed Los Lunas and Los Alamos right off the bat before beating Durango, Colorado 35-28. They then scored 63, 55, 55, and 70 in their next four games. They beat their district opponents by a combined 222-25. To open they play offs they beat St. Pius X 55-21, then in a thriller beat Belen 37-33 in a come from behind win. In the title game they made the trip to Artesia where they would lose in the Bulldog Bowl to Artesia 45-34. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#13 2005 Mayfield 14-0
Hendo's Breakdown: No doubt about it Mayfield has produced some of the toughest to beat prep football teams under Former Legendary Head Coach Jim Bradley. The 2005 Trojans beat Clovis to open the season and beat Clovis in the title game to complete the perfect 14-0 season. After losing to Clovis during the 2004 season and during the 2001 season in some epic football games, the Trojans started off the year with a hard fought 7-0 win over the Wildcats. They then beat Carlsbad 49-7, beat EP Americas 35-0, beat Manzano 31-7, beat La Cueva 35-0, beat Los Lunas 40-0, beat an 11-2 Onate team 21-13, beat Alamogordo 40-7, beat Gadsden 35-2, beat Las Cruces 40-21, beat Hobbs 49-6, beat Rio Grande 10-3, beat La Cueva 21-7 in the semifinals, before beating Clovis 17-7 in the finals. Mayfield would win the title in 2005, 2006, and in 2007 making for one of the most dominate big school runs in history. Please Submit To Players And Coaches From This Team To nmpreps@yahoo.com

#12 1963 Highland 11-0
Hendo's Breakdown: The 1963 Highland Hornets were led by a steel curtain of a defense that only allowed 22 points all season long. If they would of played 14 games and won 14 in a row, they could very well of ranked right at the top with the La Cueva teams numbers wise. They beat Santa Fe 54-0, beat Plainview, Texas 22-15, beat Gallup 45-0, beat Roswell 12-0, beat Valley 45-0, beat Sandia 12-0, beat Farmington 50-0, beat Rio Grande 7-0, beat Manzano 66-0, beat Albuquerque in the semifinals 34-7, and then beat Las Cruces in the title game 20-0. Last summer when I was being interviewed on the radio by a local Albuquerque station, an member of the '63 Hornet's team and claimed that eight players went D-1 after that season. #11 1973 Clovis 14-0
Hendo's Breakdown: It's hard to believe that the highest ranked Clovis team on the top 100 rankings is a team that Coach Eric Roanhaus did not coach. I think a ton of Clovis fans would argue that the 2001 team that went 13-0 is the best all-time team, however if you talk to the Clovis faithful that have followed football for decades they'll tell you that in 1973 they had two 2,000-yard running backs that helped Clovis win 14 straight, something that Clovis has still not done in any other season. They beat Manzano 39-6, beat EP Bowie 40-6, beat Dumas, Texas 20-9, beat Eldorado 21-16, beat Artesia 20-7, beat Roswell 54-0, beat Carlsbad 61-31, beat Goddard 62-6, beat Hobbs 7-0, beat Los Alamos 48-0, beat Mayfield 25-13 in the semifinals and beat Hobbs again this time for the title 16-0.
