Preview: The NMPreps.com Elite Combine

Today, we preview the 2014 NMPreps.com Elite Combine Powered by Defined Fitness & the Parisi Speed School. The event which will feature over 200 of the state's most premier high school football players is scheduled from 8AM to 3PM at Cleveland High School on Saturday, July 26th. Athletes are drafted onto 4 different teams and will compete throughout the day in various events. If the athlete is not listed in today's preview it's likely because the athlete registered late (within the last 14-days). Quarterbacks
Each year we have a handful of premier quarterbacks at the event and this year the group is powered by some high profile underclassmen. Kameron Miller a 6-1, 200 pound quarterback out of the Class of 2016 should again impress, he'll be on Team Blue aka Armageddon.The Silver Team aka Team Epic will be led by Junior Quarterback Josh Williams out of Volcano Vista. Team White aka Team Turnitup will be led by Justin Houghtaling out of Artesia, New Mexico who is a 6-foot-5, 190 pound prospect and Sam Garcia, who will take the lead at Cibola this year. The Red Team aka Team Gamebreakers will be quarterbacked by Cade Patterson out of Ruidoso who impressed a few weeks ago at the NMPreps.com Elite Quarterback Combine along with Garrett Gibson the NMPreps.com Elite Quarterback Camp MVP who stands 6-foot-6 and 190 pounds. Other quarterbacks to watch include Daulton Hatley out of Clovis, Gabe Ortega out of Cleveland, Andrew Ortiz out of St. Pius X, and Brandon Hernandez out of Grants.
Running Backs
Team Blue aka Armageddon will be powered at running back Jeremy Barrientes out of Lovington. Barrientes is a 5-foot-8 and 180 pound back that we are excited to have at the event. Also on the squad is Josh Burbank, one of the fastest players in New Mexico out of Valencia High School. Team Red aka Team Gamebreaker will be led by David McGee out of Laguna Acoma who ran for more than 2,000-yards last year as a junior and Payson Rogers out of Mayfield High School. Team Silver aka Team Epic will led by Franky Castillo out of Silver High School who is a three year starter at 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds. Also in the backfield will be Matthew Guerra out of Onate. Team White aka Team Turnitup will be led by Nathanyal Leyba out of St. Michael's High School and Nate Nash out of Valencia who should be a 4.4 guy in the 40-time. and also in the backfield is Jimmy Gallegos out of Sandia who can also play defensive back like no other. Other backs to keep tabs on include Kyler Padilla out of La Cueva, Matthew Vigil out of Santa Fe, Steve DeLaPaz out of Deming, Jared Perez out of Roswell, Jamie Balcazar out of Centennial, Jen Pinckley out of Farmington, and big time sophomore out of Los Lunas O'Maury Samuels.
Receivers & Tight Ends
Team Blue aka Team Armageddon will have Isaiah Gutierrez out of Valley who looks to have improved a tremendous amount over the summer along with Rhyan Araiza out of Onate who is a three year starter. Watch for Tight End Aaron Overacker who had a great 2013 combine out of La Cueva. Aeneas Reynolds was hurt last year and could not partake in the combine, but is 100% healthy heading into the event this year out of Las Cruces. Also on Red aka Team Gamebreaker is Caleb Amberg out of Eldorado and Marcos Salcido from Los Lunas. On Team Epic aka the Silver Team, watch for Julio Cesar Garcia out of St. Michael's and New Mexico State Commit Isaiah McIntyre out of Las Cruces. Also on the squad are Ben Morales out of Cleveland and Ben Orozco out of Santa Teresa. The receivers for Team White aka Team Turnitup will be Daniel Contreras out of Gadsden and Lorenzo Vigil out of Volcano Vista, also from Volcano Vista will be tight end Conor Jones. Additional receivers to watch include Trevor Brohard from Los Lunas, Tucker Dobbs from Clovis, Vicent Delgado from Las Cruces, Helio Lopez from Volcano Vista, Jeremiah Brant from Hobbs, Noah Pierce from Mayfield, and Brevin Thompson from Hobbs.
Offensive Linemen
As usual the offensive linemen group at the combine is loaded with talent and that won't change this year. Leading team Armageddon will be three year starter at Santa Rosa James Moncayo who is listed at 230 pounds. KC Swaim out of Hot Springs looks like a D-1 guy at 6-foot-6, and 230 pounds, we saw him down at NMSU and he looked great. Kevinray Munoz out of Dexter is listed at 230 pounds as is Kolton Bob out of Ruidoso. The offensive linemen for Team Gamebreaker aka Team Red will be Sean Summer out of La Cueva who is listed at 235 pounds, Gabe Gonzalez out of Dexter who is 242 pounds, returning Combine Linemen MVP Carlos Campos at 302 pounds, Aaron Montez out of Hatch who is 260 pounds, and Ricardo Duran from Los Lunas who is 6-foot-2 and 250 pounds. The Team Silver aka Team Epic will be led by Chad McNamara out of St. Mike's who is listed at 210 pounds, returning starter from Santa Teresa Colin Gluth who is also 210 pounds, sleeper prospect Isaac Chavez at 245 pounds, and 6-foot-4, 310 pound Kyle Owens out of Mayfield. Additional Linemen to watch include: Gabe Desoto from Del Norte, Chris Kuykendall out of Hobbs at 200 pounds, Nate Garcia out of Cleveland, Santos Taylor out of Cleveland, 305 pound George Nino out of Centennial who looks incredible in and out of pads, and watch for sleepers like Demetry Rodriguez, and 6-foot-7, 265 pound Henry Hattis who already has an offer from New Mexico.
Defensive Linemen
The defensive linemen roster should be one of the more loaded groups at the event on Saturday. Team Armageddon aka Team Blue will be led by 265 Pound Cameron Mills out of Mayfield who is pushing for over 30 reps at 185 pounds. Garrett Salopek from Las Cruces is a very good defensive end from Las Cruces who should also have a good showing. From Ruidoso we will have Dillon Trapp who is a 6-foot-4, 220 pound down linemen with good agility and size. Team Gamebreaker aka Team Red will be led up front by Cody Murillo out of Las Cruces who is listed at 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds. Also on the squad is James Romero out of Atrisco Heritage who is likely to surpass the bench press record of 185 pounds (record is 34). Team Silver aka Team Epic has some solid linemen as well with Alejandro Lucero out of Valley and Dominik Trujillo from Mayfield attending. Also watch for 230 pound Israel Diaz out of Onate and Mitchell Matheison from Mayfield who is a quick side defensive end. Team White aka Team Turnitup will be led up front by 270 pound Carlos Jimenez out of Onate, and Matt Cook from Cleveland who nearly owns all the strength records at Cleveland already. Additional names to keep tabs on include: Jeremy Chavez from Las Cruces, Jerry Gurola from Centennial, Jackson Scott from Hobbs, and Brendan Gonzales from Grants.
Linebackers
Leading Team Blue aka Team Armageddon at linebacker will be Marcos Griego out of Valencia and William Hurd from Escalante. Griego is a 220 pound middle backer we are expecting a big showing from. Team Gamebreaker aka Team Red has Joseph Montoya out of Las Cruces along with Gabe Wilkinson from Manzano. Watch for Chase Austin out of Centennial who will be a three year starter for the Hawks. Team Silver aka Team Epic has some newcomers on the squad with Freddie Abeyta from Santa Fe, Joey Lopez from Artesia, and Tim Gonzales from Carlsbad being drafted to the team. Steven Tenorio out of Santa Rosa is one of the best backers returning into 2014 and he'll led Team White aka Team Turnitup. Cole Smith out of Hobbs and Cory Noel from Las Cruces are also listed linebackers on the team. Additional Linebackers to watch for include: Cody Scott out of Artesia, Louie Lombardi out of Mayfield, Michael Barboa out of Valley, DeAndre Booker ot of Volcano Vista who has had a strong summer, big time sophomore Forest McKee out of Onate, Matthew Tuscon out of Farmington, Aaron Madrid out of Eunice, Justin Ray Martinez out of Hobs, and Sam Sanchez out of Grants.
Defensive Backs
The defensive backs at the combine are usually the one's who get the most reps because it's usually the smallest group each year. Marcus Montoya out of Onate along with Robbie Hashagen of Santa Fe will be on Team Blue. On Team Red will be Cody Crosby out of Academy and Jordan Velasquez from Valley. Velasquez is one of the better lock down corners in New Mexico, but will start at quarterback for Valley this year. Watch for Andres Cabellero from Hobbs and Steven Herrera from Gadsden. Herrera is a two-way player from Gadsden that had a great junior year. From Team White you'll have Colby Bagwell out of Clayton along with Tanner Haltom from Eldorado. Keep an eye on Dante Urrera from Deming, Ryan Moore of Manzano, Kaine Bender as an athlete, Clay Crosby, Dominic Anaya from Roswell, Guy Ross Tippy from Hobbs, Andre Gomez from Hobbs, Ed Woodbury from Grants, Fermin Lucero out of Valencia, and Blane Ferbrache from Eunice.
