RIO RANCHO, N.M. -- Just like the U.S. Calvary in an old-time Hollywood western, the Rio Rancho defense rode to the rescue just in the nick of time.
With Rams trailing gutty Clovis by three points (28-25) with the fourth quarter clock winding down, the Rio Rancho defense forced a vital turnover from the Wildcats, which led to a game-tying field goal with just over a minute left.
Then, the Rams held Clovis to a field goal in overtime, which opened the door for the Rio Rancho offense. On the third snap, RB Cailon Bailon barreled into the end zone from 1 yard out to give the Rams a hard-fought 34-31 overtime victory over the hard-luck Wildcats, keeping Rio Rancho’s 16-game winning streak intact.
