The quarterfinals of the state high school football playoffs continued Saturday afternoon with seven games. By the end of the day, we knew the complete semifinal matchups. Here is a recap of Saturday afternoon’s action:
Cleveland 49, Hobbs 24
Cleveland (10-1) won its ninth straight game by beating Hobbs in the quarterfinals and now the Storm get an opportunity to gain a measure of revenge against the only team to beat them this season – La Cueva. They meet in the 6A semifinals on Friday night at 7 p.m.
Cleveland jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Storm took the opening kickoff and drove 80 yards with Isaac Torres scoring on a 5-yard run. Hobbs committed two key penalties on the drive leading directly to first downs, including an offsides on fourth-and-4.
