St. Pius X Sartans set to play in first State Championship Game since 2001

Albuquerque, New Mexico - The last time the St. Pius X Sartans reached the State Football Championship game was in 2001, the last time they won the State Football Championship was in 1999.

Friday Night the Sartans defeated the Roswell Coyotes 42-7 in the Class 5A Semifinals to advance to the 2016 Class 5A State Title Game next weekend.

The Sartans now 11-1 on the season will face either Los Lunas or Artesia, that game takes place on Saturday at 1PM from the Bulldog Bowl in Artesia, New Mexico.

The Sartans coached by San Juan Mendoza who has been the Head Coach since 1996 have outscored opponents this season 557-177 and have won 8 games in a row, their offense 60 points twice this year and they are led by Senior Quarterback Drew Ortiz who has passed for over 2,000-yards and accounted for more than 25 touchdowns in his senior campaign.
