Tuesday Night Recap

2. Top-25 Opening Night thrashings: Both No. 14 Roswell and No. 21 Capital hammered their opponents on Tuesday Night. The 4A, "Mid-Majors" in the Big School Division, stomped on smaller schools Ruidoso and Santa Fe Indian. Yes, we figured No. 21 Capital would but Ruidoso a Top-10 team in their classification would have thought to put up a fight.

3. Call Him Mr. Double-Double: Mario Ramirez, opened eyes last season with a pair of double-doubles in the Title run last March. Well, the big man hasn't missed a beat going off for 25 points and 15 rebounds in the No. 13 Santa Teresa Desert Warriors opening win, 49-34 over El Paso High School.

Prime Time Players

1. MARIO RAMIREZ, SANTA TERESA/JUNIOR:

We just gave the junior big man some love above but, c'mon now 25 and 15! That's a monster of an opening night. Can someone tell me Prime Time Mario Ramirez!!

2. CESAR NAVA, ROSWELL/JUNIOR

Nava gonna stop him! Cesar Nava point guard for the Coyotes completely stole the show last night as he poured in 28 points in the, 93-40 win over Ruidoso.

3. JOSEPH GARZA, LAS CRUCES/SENIOR

Garza tried all he could with a solid 20-point performance in a losing effort for the Dawgs last night. One of the finest shooters down south, Garza will look for some a win soon.

EP Franklin 67, No. 6 Las Cruces Bulldawgs 61

The Las Cruces Bulldawgs faced off against El Paso Franklin on Tuesday,after opening with two great EP Texas teams the Dawgs are now 0-2 but have shown that they are a scrappy bunch of Seniors playing in closely contested games. Joe Garza had 20 points on the night, also contributing for Cruces was Trever Noel who had 16 points on the night. Las Cruces will host El Paso Eastwood in their home opener in week 3.

No. 13 Santa Teresa 49, El Paso High 34

The Santa Teresa Desert Warriors squared off against El Paso High on Tuesday night as Santa Teresa would start the season and start the quest for a title defense. The Desert Warriors led by 20 at the midway point 33-13 and would not look back as Mario Ramirez led his team with 25 points and 15 rebounds. Also helping out the Desert Warrior cause was Jacob Fernandez who pitched in with 10 points.

No. 14 Roswell 93, Ruidoso 40

The Roswell Coyotes faced off against The Ruidoso Warriors on Tuesday night, although the game was fairly close in the early goings of the game the Coyotes proved just how tough they can be defensively clamping down on the Warriors and ultimately winning in lopsided fashion. If the Coyotes keep playing like the throughout the year watch out for them to be prime contenders for a run at the 4-A title in 2013. Cesar Nava of Roswell lead Roswell with 28 points, also helping out the Coyote cause was Alex Olinski who dropped 17, and Isreal Bonilla who had 11 points.

No. 21 Capital 81, Santa Fe Indian School 43

The Capital Jaguars and the SFIS Braves squared off on Tuesday night in the season opener for the Capital Jaguars who ended up winning a lopsided affair as they were able to go on some nice scoring runs. For Capital it is a nice game to get their feet wet and all their parts going offensively. The Jags saw great production out of Mikey Lopez, Christian Martinez and Michael Sanders.

Centennial Hawks 69, Anthony High School 14

The newest addition to 4-A the Centennial Hawks faced off against Anthony High School on Tuesday night and would end up resulting in the Hawks first ever Win for the young Program. Leading the way for the Hawks was Cesar Molina who dropped 21 points and Omar Lopez who had 12 points. Also Contributing for Centennial was Kevin Vasquez with 11 points. The Hawks are now 1-0 on the season and will look to take on Tornillo in week 3.

Andress (TX) 42, Onate 39 (OT)

Round two between both schools and two different results. This time in a lower scoring affair the Knights fell to Andress (TX). The game was very close and aggressive all night long, just like the first game between the schools. Turnovers hurt the Knights late in the fourth. Daemund McCants led way with his second double double on the year, 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Kirtland Central 48, Los Alamos 25

Fresh off their 2012 Final Four appearance the Broncos of Kirtland Central (1-0) came in and dominated the Hilltoppers of Los Alamos (0-1). Kirtland Central big man Christian Mackey had 25 points. Simon Heath led Los Alamos with 10 points in the losing effort.

Taos 67, Penasco 40

Taos took on small school division team Penasco on Tuesday Night, in a game that was all Taos from the tip-off. The Tigers were led by Kiko Martinez with 14 points. Josh Gurule led Penasco with 12 points in a losing effort.
