Friday Night continued to bring us upsets with several top ranked teams falling. A few unranked teams pulling out their biggest wins yet.

No. 1 La Cueva66, No. 8 Volcano Vista 57:
The La Cueva Bears and the Volcano Vista Hawks faced off on Friday Night in a matchup that would feature two of the top teams in the Albuquerque Metro Area. The Bears came away with the win and proceed to the Metro Chapionships where they will face off against the Atrisco Jaguars. The win is also what Bryce Alford Calls a "statement win" because they won while two of their starters sat out on the night. Bryce Alford answered the offensive call for the Bears as he dropped a tough earned 45 points also grabbing
No. 5 Hobbs 99,No. 21 Alamogordo 58:
The Hobbs Eagles took on the Alamogordo Tigers on Friday night in Alamogordo. The Eagles used signature pressure defense and and up-tempo style of play to come away with the victory. The Eagles improve to 11-3 with the victory and the Eagles were able to forced the Tigers into committing 30 turnovers. Leading the way for the Eagles offensively was Adrian Sanches who had a game high 22 points, Dane Pannell also had 16 points for the Eagles. Tyler Day lead the way for the Tigers with 20 points.
No. 13 Atrisco Heritage 55, No. 10 Sandia 48: Shocking to many people in New Mexico but the Atrisco Heritage Jaguars pulled away late in this one to play for their first APS Metro Championship on Saturday night (vs. La Cueva at 5:45). The Jaguars were led by junior guard Corbin Waquie (NMPreps.com Top 150 Player) who had 17 points. The Matadors of Sandia got 20 points from forward Tim Brennan (NMPreps.com Top 150 Player) in the losing effort.
No. 16 St. Pius X 57, Sandia Prep 38: - Gallup Invitational - Friday night in the semi-final game the 4A power St. Pius X Sartans improved to (7-3) behind Nick Stafford (NMPreps.com Top 150 Player) and Joe Sanchez (NMPreps Top 150 Player) 14 points. The Sundevils received 11 points from both Jonny Doran and Zack Tenorio.
Upset Alert: Rio Grande 66, No. 3 Albuquerque High 55: Playing a consistent four quarters last night fueled the Rio Grande Ravens to a major upset on Friday and probably securing the Ravens a decent shot at earning a bid to the 2013 State Tournament. The win is also big for the Ravens because it was only the first of two more meetings with District foe Albuquerque High. Senior forward Mike Torrez (NMPreps.com Top 25 Player) led the way for the Ravens with 18 points. Also, sophomore guard Juwan Brooks (NMPreps.com Top 150 Player) poured in 16 points in the win. Senior post James Croasdell put in 17 points for the Bulldogs.
Upset Alert: Del Norte 62, No. 12 Rio Rancho 60: Ryan Noce the first-year head coach of the Del Norte Knights (4-7) won their biggest game of the season beating the No. 12 team in New Mexico - Rio Rancho - on Friday night of the APS Metro Championships. The Knights have been searching for that win that will make the seeding selection have to consider them for one of the 16 spots come March. Knights forward Christopher Wright (NMPreps.com Top 150 Player) led the team with 16 points and around 8 rebounds unofficially. Josh Lucero led the Rams in scoring with 18 points in the losing effort. The Rams fall for the third time this week.

Upset Alert: West Mesa 51, No. 18 Hope Christian 50: The unranked West Mesa Mustangs pulled off another surprising win on Friday evening over another Top 25 team in the Hope Huskies. Big man Jason Baca scored 19 points in the Mustangs win. Austin Drake and Micah Murphy put in16 points for the Huskies.
NON-TOP 25 RECAPS
Bloomfield 102, Aztec 93 :
The Bloomfield Bobcats Faced off against the Aztec Tigers on Friday Night in the Semi Finals of the Aztec Tournament and it was the Bloomfield Bobcats who wold pull off the upset as they were able to out shoot the Tigers in the home stretch. Leading the way for the Bobcats was Michael Crockett who had a game high 26 points.
Los Lunas 58, Los Alamos 32: Los Lunas who needed a win after last weeks fall out of the Top 25 got one Friday. Post Quentin Mullins put in 13 points for the Tigers.
Shiprock 67, Fruita (CO) 46: Hiram Gleason led the Chieftains with 15 points along with teammate Justin Begays' 18 points to put them onto the next round.
St. Michael's 49, Socorro 23:
The St. Michael's and Socorro did battle on Friday night in Socorro as the 7-6 Horsemen would get the win over the Warriors as St. Mikes was able to defensively dominate Socorro. The charge would be lead by Jeff Groenewold who had a team high 12 points.
Pecos 76, Robertson 71:
The Robertson Cardinals would play host to the red hot Pecos Panthers on Friday night and it was the Panthers who would come away with the win as they improve to 12-1 on the year. Leading the way for the Cardinals despite the loss was Ryan Tafoya who had 21 points and also helping the Cardinals cause was Joe Mascarenas who had 21 points also. The Panthers were lead offensively by aaron Lujan who had 20 points and Brandon Quintana who had 17 to help the Panthers keep their 12 game wining streak alive.
