Hoops: Top Uncommitted Players
Joshua J. Grine
NMPreps.com Basketball Analyst
The state of New Mexico is not your typical hot bed for basketball recruits but we have a high quantity of players that could play.

Every so often we have the major recruits and players that gain the interest of big time programs, AJ Bramlett (Arizona), Kenny Thomas (UNM), Harvey Hale (Wake Forest) and many others.
Well, 2012 won't feature the major schools but should see several players play at the next level no matter the division.
(Note: April 11th was the first signing day)

Already committed to players from the 2012 Class

Kyle Quintana (Rio Rancho, NM/Cleveland High School)
6-foot-1, Point Guard
Committed: Naval Academy
Quintana was one of New Mexico's top guards the past two seasons leading the Storm in scoring during its inaugural basketball seasons. This past season he was in the top 10 for 5A in scoring with 18.6 ppg. The Storm reached the 2011 Final Four but fell short to the eventual State Champion.
Quinci Hester (Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo High School)
6-foot-1, Guard
Committed/Verbal: Northern New Mexico College
Quinci Hester is one of the most underrated guards in the state of New Mexico but that didn't get passed Northern NM Head coach Ryan Cordova. Hester was to go-to player for the Tigers this past season for coach Madden.
James Healy (Albuquerque, NM/Cibola High School)
6-foot-2, Shooting Guard
Committed: Otero JC
The Cougars shooting guard James Healy was one of the top shooting guards in the state of New Mexico this past season. Healy displayed a long shooting range but also a top notch ability to get to the rim of the dribble.
Mando Marshall (Las Cruces, NM/Las Cruces High School)
6-foot-5, Wing-Forward
Committed: Otero JC
I am still a little surprised to see the Marshall hasn't decide to make a commitment. Of the final 2012 class, Marshall to me should be the next division one player committed when it's all said and done. He has everything you need in a player , he can rebound, shoot, block shots and is a basketball junkie.

Top 10 Uncommitted Players

Mark Winters (Albuquerque, NM/Eldorado High School)
6-foot-4, Shooting Guard
Uncommitted:
Winters has the size and shooting touch to play at the next level. If you are looking for a bigger guard that understands the game then Winters is your answer. He was a member of the 2012 5A State Champion Eldorado Eagles
Aaron Kubinski (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva High School)
6-foot-5, Guard-Wing
Uncommitted:
Playing for such a high profile team like the Bears Kubinski sometimes gets left out of the equation. Kubinski, however, proved to everyone during the State Tournament that he can shooting the rock. This lefty is a sure thing at the next level for a coach looking for size in the backcourt.
Arren Wells (Albuquerque, NM/Hope Christian High School)
6-foot-7, Forward
Uncommitted:
Hope Christian has built a dynasty and Arren Wells has played one of the biggest parts in the three state championships in the past four years. Wells comes from a solid program and will make any coach happy to have on their roster come 2012-13 season. He can come in and immediately help out a program.
Aaron Ibarra (Hobbs, NM/Hobbs High School)
6-foot-4, Wing-Forward
Uncommitted:
Aaron Ibarra should be on the high radar for several small colleges in and around the state. Ibarra was in the top for scoring in the state of New Mexico with over 25 points per game. Ibarra was a crucial part in the "rebuilding" of the basketball power Hobbs High School leading them to the Elite Eight. He will fit right in a D-2 program.
Nick August (Gallup, NM/Gallup High School)
6-foot-2, Guard
Uncommitted: Several Schools
August proved to the doubters during the State Tournament that he can play and lead a team. The Bengals reached the 2012 4A State Championship by the double-doubles August brought to the table. He has a great shooting form and will make a perfect fit at the JC level before bigger things.
Martin Colledge-Romero (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque High School)
6-foot-1, Guard
Uncommitted:
Colledge-Romero is a three year starter for the Bulldogs and helped bring back the pride to Bulldog City. The Bulldogs went into the State Tournament ranked-2 for the first time in a decade. Colledge-Romero has a nice shooting touch and displayed a high ability to pass the ball running the point during the Rocky Mountain Showcase. He will be a solid fit for a D-2 program.
Chase Salazar (Roswell, NM/Goddard High School)
5-foot-11, Point Guard
Uncommitted:
When you are looking at point guards in the 2012 class Salazar's name tops the charts. Super quick, with outstanding ball handling skills that will suit well for any coaches and not to mention he can play above the rim. Salazar could fit perfect with a D-2 program.
Jeremy Romero (Espanola, NM/Espanola Valley High School)
6-foot-1, Guard
Uncommitted: Several Schools
The Sundevils didn't duplicate the magical State Championship season from 2011 which he played a huge role in but Romero is a sure thing next level player. He has the ability to take someone of the dribble or stop and pop a jumper. Romero is the type of player you have to leave the lights on for because he lives in the gym.
Adrian Ortegon (Anthony, NM/Santa Teresa High School)
6-foot-5, Forward
Uncommitted:
Desert Warriors did the unthinkable and won the 4A State Championship lead by the double-doubles of Ortegon. Each night during the run to the championship he played above the rim and thriving off weaker posts. Will fit in perfect for a JC team or D-2 team.
Second 10 that should play somewhere
Josh Holmes, Volcano Vista
Cameron Glasrud, Eldorado
John Knight, Albuquerque High
Josh Knight, Albuquerque High
Lane Vander Hulst, Goddard
Brandon Rosales, Onate
Weston Zeller, Grants
Max Suazo, Taos
Garrett Hendren &Trey Correa, Mesilla Valley Christian
Nick Trujillo, West Mes
