ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Three members of the La Cueva High School coaching staff were placed on paid administrative leave yesterday pending the outcome of an investigation into alleged employee misconduct.
APS police and APD human resources are investigating the allegations that some members of the La Cueva football were drinking on a team bus come back from a state-playoff game against Las Cruces Mayfield on Nov. 26.
"We take these allegations very seriously and we owe it to the community to conduct a prompt and full investigation so that we can take appropriate action," APS Superintendent Winston Brooks said.
Brooks said he was alerted to the issue on Thursday. It is unknown at this time the identity of the players involved in the allegations. Brooks went on to say that all students and coaches are fully aware of the athletic activity code of conduct. Brooks also said that players and other coaches will be interviewed during the investigation.
In 2009, La Cueva baseball coach Stan McKeever was fired after an APS investigation found he hired strippers for two of his players during an out-of-town trip.
