Thursday Night Recap

Today we recap the Thursday Night games from across the State of New Mexico.

Game Recap: After a blocked punt by Del Norte, the Knights took a 7-0 lead after a Jose Leyba 9-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Albuquerque struck right back after a 63-yard touchdown pass from Ryley Padilla to Jonathan Martinez touchdown pass to make it 7-7 with 4:24 left in the game. The Knights retook the lead after another Jose Leyba 28-yard touchdown reception off a screen from Tyrelle Jackson to make it 14-7. Del Norte then took a 20-7 lead after Leyba scored again off another screen pass with 4:58 left before the half. After a botched punt be Del Norte, the Bulldogs scored off a Padilla touchdown pass to make it 21-13 with 7:09 left in the game. Del Norte would drive down the field after Jose Leyba broke a 45-yard run and then punched it in from the 1-yard line to take a 27-13 lead in the 3rd quarter with 4:30 left in the game. The Bulldogs down, not out returned a fumble 35-yards for a touchdown by Jude Balonado to make it 27-20 with 1:02 left in the 3rd quarter. The Knights scored what would be the score to put the game out of reach when Jackson hit Andres Rel for a touchdown pass to make it 35-21 late in the 4th quarter. Adrian Lovato scored on a touchdown run for Albuquerque to make it 35-28 with 4:34 left in the game. The Bulldogs would stop Del Norte on a 4th down, manage to take it all the way down to the 1-yard line but were stuffed just inches from the end-zone. Losing streak stands at 40-games.
Onate 21, EP Eastlake 14 Final
Game Recap: The Onate Knights took the field Thursday Night hopping to rebound from their 42-10 loss against rival Centennial last week. The Knights jumped on the board first after Matthew Guerra scored off a 34-yard touchdown to make it 7-0 Knights. After a near hour weather delay, the two teams headed back onto the field, where Easklake would tie it right before half 7-7. Eastlake then took a 14-7 lead after Michael Caldwell caught a 64-yard touchdown to make it 14-7 Eastwood with 8:11 left in the 3rd quarter. The Knights managed to tie the game 14-14 and then took a 21-14 lead after Matthew Guerra scored his second touchdown of the night with just over 9:00 mins in the 4th quarter. A second lightning delay came in the 4th quarter with Onate leading 21-14. The game would eventually be called 21-14 with 3 mins left to play. Onate is now 1-1 on the season.
Rio Grande 38, Highland 20 Final
Game Recap: The Rio Grande Ravens earned their first victory of the season rolling past Highland 38 to 20 The Ravens jumped off to a 7-0 lead when Jacob Salazar threw a touchdown to Matthew Segura to open the game. The Ravens then struck again when Segura ran in a touchdown run, his second score of the game. Rio Grande then went up 26-0 right before half when Jacob Salazar hit Jordan Brooks for a 55-yard touchdown. The Hornets did make a late run, in fact they scored 14 unanswered points in the second half to make the final more respectable. The Ravens now 1-1 on the year will take on Manzano in week 3. Highland now 0-2 on the year will make a road trip to Alamogordo. The Hornets have now lost their last 13 out of 14 games dating back to the 2013 season.

Henderson: What We Learned From Week 1

Recap: Las Cruces pounds El Paso Montwood 44-18
FIELD OF DREAMS - LAS CRUCES, NEW MEXICO - Thursday Night, August 28th the Las Cruces Bulldawgs rolled to a 44-18 win over El Paso Montwood. The Class 5A two time defending state champ looked impressive jumping to a 37-6 lead at the half. Click Here For Game Highlights
