MR. NEW MEXICO - OVERALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jude Segura, QB (Fort Sumner) - Jude Segura has been regarded as one of the top quarterbacks and athletes in the state of New Mexico. On Saturday he led the Foxes to the 2017 2A State Championship and 11-0 overall record. Segura has 234-yards passing on 13-20 attempts with 6-touchdowns. He also rushed four times for 36-yards and 1 touchdowns.
NORTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Matt Chavez, QB (Miyamura) - The Miyamura Patriots ended a two-game skid with a first round win over Deming in the 5A State Playoffs. Chavez rushed for 91-yards and 3-touchdowns on the day. He was highlighted by his 231-yards passing (19-of-25) and 3-passing touchdowns hitting seven different receivers. The Patriots move to the quarterfinals where they will take on the 2-seed Belen Eagles.
Jonathan Avila, LB (Clovis) - The Clovis Wildcats won on the road in the opening round of the 6A State Playoffs defeating the 8-seed Atrisco Heritage Jaguars. Avila, who has had a stellar season finished the day with 16 total tackles, 2 of them for a loss. The Wildcats move into the quarterfinals where they will face the 1-seed Manzano Monarchs.
SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chandler Carson, RB (Hatch Valley) - The Hatch Valley Bears have been one of the hottest teams during the second stretch of the football season. Carson, rushed for 146-yards (17 carries) with a pair of touchdowns in the win. Carson also had 4 tackles (1TFL) in the win over Shiprock. The Bears move into the quarterfinals where they will face the 1-seed St. Michael's Horsemen.
