Today, we start to announce the winners of the New Mexico high school football awards. The awards are voted on by fans, media members and NMPreps staff.

WINNNER: DIEGO CASILLIAS - BELEN HIGH SCHOOL

NMPreps.com is happy to announce the 2017 New Mexico Running Back of the Year to Diego Casillas. Casillias plays for the Belen High School Eagles who finished the season 12-1 and played for the 2017 5A State Championship.

Casillas earned 3 out of 4 first place votes from media votes and an overwhelming favorite in the fan poll vote (43.5% of votes). Casillas rushed for 2,679-yards (9.9 average per carry) and 33-touchdowns this season.

Casillas only a junior will be one of the top players to watch in 2018.
